Tipz Herez sum tipz for ya!(Keep checkin back cuz were continuosly addin on) Note: Safety gear is alwayz recommended (as yours truly broke his arm recently) Soul Grind (begginer-intermediate level grind) First of all let me just say, that you want to start out JUMPING ON! None of this one-foot-on-at-a-time crap. Well i supose u could start out that way, but it takes while to re-learn. Start out by doing a stall. If you don't know what the postition is put your back foot on the ledge or rail in the soul position. Put your other foot in the royal postition (rail or ledge between middle wheels). Keep stalling in that position until you have it down good. Then just keep building up ur speed and stalling until you start to slide. Remember to keep your weight centered so ya don't fall on ur buttox. And guess what, now ur grindin a SOUL GRIND. Royale (intermediate level grind) All right, so your ready to move on to a different grind eh? Well in my opinion, the Royale is a tad bit harder than the soul, some other people disaggree, but whatever. Anywayz> on this grind you have to jump on, otherwise your screwed and you'll slip out. So, like any other grind, start out stalling in the position, Cuz like my man J.J. says "If you can stall it, you can grind it" (rail or ledge between middle wheels with your feet leaned backward and your back foot's boot should be pretty damn near touching the ledge or rail.) You should look like this: Then gradually build up your speed and start grinding. REMEMBER TO KEEP YOUR WEIGHT FORWARD OR UR GONNA GO FALLIN! If you get good, start adding some spin to your dismount, like a 180 or 360. Well don't just sit there and read, put on ur skates and GO TRY IT!
Makio Not Much to say about this grind xcept that jumping on and one foot on at a time with this grind take totally different skill levels. Alright, so as for the stall, sk8 up to the curb or rail and put the soul of whichever foot is closest to the rail (or curb) on. now Bring up your other fooot and grab it with the hand that is on that side (i.e. if you're bringing up your left foot, grab it with ur left hand). Get it. Now, if you're a bigginere you can sk8 up with some sppeed, lock on your soul while still sliding, and then grab ur foot, but if ur getting tired of that crap, i would reccomend jumping on, in which case you jump with both legs, and as soon as you lock on ur soul, grab ur foot. Well go on, give it a try.
Pornstar Alright, so now ur gettin some skill and ur ready for a new grind. Now some people think that to do a pornstar, you have to be going backwards, but for the sake of argument, lets say that a pornstar is going forwards and an alley-oop pornstar is going backwards. Now first you have to get the position down, put whichever leg is closest to the ledge or rail in the soul position, now bring your other foot back around behind you and kinda twist it so that you are on the outside of you boot. you should look sorta like this: (Except going frontwards) Some important things to remember while u r learning this grind are to keep your weight centered and lean so that your body is pretty much right above the ledge or rail. So go on out there and strap on ur sk8tes and give this a try!
Backslide (intermediate-advanced) Alright kids, this next trick is called a backlside and it's a bit difficult. First of all, like always, lets get the stall down. First of all, put your back foot in the royale position. Then grab your front foot with your front hand. This is the backslide position. Now, after a while of practicing this stall, lets move onto the actual grind. It's really important that you keep your weight forward while sliding, or you'll slip out and fall on ur buttox. Alright, skate up to where ur gonna grind at a moderate speed and jump, now while ur in the air start to grab you front skate while putting ur back foot in the correct postion. As soon as you feel yourself land on the rail/curb start to lean forward. If your on a straight curb, you probably dont have to as much, but on a handrail, you definitely should. So go on out there and give it a try!
